Identity theft has seen a rise in the past few years. Besides the inconvenience of such a crime, it can also be a very emotional experience for victims involved. For this reason it is imperative to follow some guidelines to avoid becoming a victim.

First order of importance to avoiding identity theft is to know whether you are already a victim. Getting a free copy of your credit report will shed light on everything you need to know.

That is the reason why prevention is of this type of crime is so important.

There is not a shortage of companies that offer identity protection services. You can use your credit card company, the credit bureaus or even a private company like Life Lock.

Reverse phone search can also play a part in protecting you from unsuspecting thieves. Believe it or not many identity thieves get their information directly from their victims over the telephone. With this in mind, you should never give your information over the phone to a company you do not trust.

In the event that a suspicious company calls you requesting information, you could do a reverse phone search and find out the complete background of the caller. These phone search companies are really efficient in revealing the information that you are seeking. They are even equipped to search cell phone numbers and unlisted numbers also.

To make sure you always have the number of anyone who calls your phone, you can turn the feature on your phone that rejects calls from anonymous callers. This feature gives you the ability to know the number of everyone who calls.

Being more safe with your identity will ensure that you are not extremely sorry later. The high cost and frustration of dealing with identity theft and the penalty that comes with it is definitely worth the extra security measures.

Online Free Public Florida Arrest Search

by Edward Lee

Background checks are fast becoming a standard practice for both recruiting new employees and appraising existing ones. In the interest of security and safety, Florida Criminal Records checks have inevitably become the most sought after records as a gauge of human character. For certain sensitive positions, certain form of criminal background check is a pre-requisite to be considered no matter voluntary or employed.

In Florida, the most common measure to this effect is the Florida Criminal Records Check. In parallel, there are Sex Offender Records and Inmate Records. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Division of Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), maintains and provides public access to criminal history information when requested. However, it is not lawful to report public arrest records especially by pre-employment screening services.

Actually, Florida Arrest Records are in more ways than one the most effective way of evaluating an individual’s tendency for brushes with the law. Florida State Repository only permits access of felony and misdemeanor convictions but arrest records are technically public records under Florida state laws unless they have been expunged or sealed by the courts. They are therefore accessible by any member of the public. Also, an arrest record is entered for every detention whether or not incarceration resulted.

Florida Free Arrest Records come under the jurisdiction of the state. They are all forwarded from various county police departments, highway patrols, sheriff’s offices and other criminal justice agencies throughout Florida and updated on a monthly basis. Procedures require that national agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Justice are notified of all arrests.

Public Arrest Records search are conducted for various purposes; checking out potential employees, neighbors, work colleagues or even prospective spouses. Although the law does not permit direct questions on arrest history in employment interviews, checks can be made in discretion. There are ways to get around its cap on reporting too and odds are it is done, underhanded that it may be. That’s why it’s a good idea to routinely self-check in case of errors against your favor.

The legality on using it is potentially sticky to the layman. It has a lot to do with the source of the information. On this account, the risk can be easily circumvented by obtaining them through commercial third-party providers. Such outfits are abundantly found on all major search engines and the top ones are hugely professional, not least in the area of the lawful application of arrest and other Florida criminal records information.

Online Dangers to Child Safety

July 2nd, 2009
by Marion Jones

What is there to say about the world children inhabit these days? Sexed-up television, pornographic Internet sites and videos and violent board games. A world that is lowering its standards, values, and morals every day, surrounds our children.

What makes it even worse is that we cannot use Parental Controls any more to prevent our children from visiting websites of an adult nature. These days children are knowledgeable about technology and often more so than their parents. How can we keep our children safe from online dangers? How can we as parents provide safety for our children, while still fighting the corruption that goes on in the world?

Parental Controls are available on most types of Internet software, yet today, children are skilled at by-passing these Parental Controls. So, what can we do? We can protect our children by monitoring their time spent on the Internet closely.

How to use parental controls: It depends on which Internet provider you have, however, I will speak only of the Internet providers I know about, since not all programs are the same. To use AOL Parental Controls, you will need to go to ‘Safety’ on the toolbar and click on ‘Parental Controls’.

Once you arrive there, you will see a list of usernames available. Look for your child’s username and click on the username. You will see a popup window appear. Click on ‘Edit Web Control’ and then click ‘Kids Only’, and close. Now your child is protected against dangerous sites.

Chat rooms can be serious dangers to children, since anyone can go into these rooms. Often predators frequent these areas, so as to entice children into a web of danger. In the AOL program, click on ‘Safety’ and then click on ‘Parental Controls’.

In the same way, click on the ‘Edit IM Controls’, ‘Edit E-mail Controls’, and ‘Edit Chat Control’ and follow the same steps as you did to establish the ‘Parental Controls’.

It is wise to setup passwords. Passwords will offer additional protection and safety for your child. Do not give the child the passwords, since this will give the child control of your Internet connections, and the child might reset the controls.

It is also wise to use your ‘Popup Controllers’ too, since if you do not turn on the controls, pop ups could corrupt your system, or popup adult content, which your child will see when online. You can go into ‘AOL Safety’ at the toolbar to start these popup guards.

If you are using Internet Explorer, open a page. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top menu, click ‘Popup Blocker’ and then click ‘Popup Blocker Settings’. Read the information carefully and set the program at medium. Medium is standard and will block most pop ups. If you put the settings higher than medium you might find it difficult to open websites for browsing.

Some of the dangers presented to children online include: Internet Porn; Child Porn; Child Sexual Abuse; Mobile Porn; and more. So, your child is in danger, and if you want to conquer safety, you will have to monitor, and take steps to safeguard your child against online dangers.

According to recent studies, students have encountered sexual malpractices through webcams, instant messengers, and mobile phones. Additional studies show that pornographic websites out-rate CBS, ABC, and NBC, thereby making more profit than each of these television channels in a year. The studies claim that the largest group that views porn sites are children. These children are between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The statistics showed that around 74% of the porn sites had unmonitored banners, while another 66% of the sites did not issue adult content warnings. Another 11% of the sites did not have sexually explicit content warnings, and 25% mousetrapped the visitors, by not allowing them to leave the sites. Only 3% of the websites out of more than 14 millions adult sites requested adult permission for minors. Protect your child now!

Some garage door openers have a locking device to automatically lock when the door closes after the vehicle goes in or out. Unfortunately these locking mechanisms are not as secure as they might seem. You also need to install a deadbolt lock and or a padlock to engage when you are gone for extended time.

Attached Garages are Especially Vulnerable

Garages that are attached to the main home pose graver possibilities. Control the Access to Your Garage

The best way to secure your home from the garage is to control access to your garage. This holds true whether or not you this is attached to your home. The main idea is to limit those who can come in and out of your garage and into your home with the right garage door security.

Fire Extinguishers - A Guide On Selection And Placement

June 30th, 2009
by Paul Mancini

No matter where you live or where you work, there is always the risk that a structural fire may start. A handily placed fire extinguisher might be your first line of defense, and may save lives and property. Fire extinguishers are mandatory at places where the incidence of fire is very high, notably places like gas stations and restaurants.

Fire extinguishers come in a variety of different sizes. There are the very large types that you would find at large factories. These ones may require more than one person to carry them into position. Next you have the portable styles that you find in small shops or residences.

There are 4 main ‘classes’ of extinguishers. They are categorized according to the types of combustible fuels they are designed to put out. We have Class A fire extinguishers that are used to put out fires made up of solid fuels. The next class of fire extinguishers are the Class B extinguishers which are used to stop liquid fires. This fire fighting equipment is most suitable for flammable liquids such as petroleum. The next class of extinguishers (Class C) are used for fires when there is electricity involved. This type of extinguisher won’t provide a return conduction path back to the user and is good to use if there is the slightest suspicion that electricity may be present. The last style of extinguishers are the ‘Class K’ variants. These units are utilized to put out cooking oil fires in restaurants.

In terms of how they operate, we have 2 major types of fire extinguishers. There is the stored pressure appliance, and the cartridge design. The pressure type has the particular substance that extinguishes the fire, together with a propellant in the form of compressed air or nitrogen inside the tank. As you press the handle, the gas is propelled from the extinguisher tank and a resulting agent gushes out of the nozzle to extinguish the flames. In the second design (the cartridge variant), there is no such pressure stored in the main tank. Instead of this you have a tiny ancillary cartridge that discharges into the cylinder when you depress the handle. In this fashion it becomes converted to a stored pressure tank which then puts out the flames.

As a principle, you should locate the fire extinguisher in a place that is simple to get to. It is most logical to keep them near escape routes or close to entrances and exits. You shouldn’t install them higher than four feet off the ground, otherwise you’ll need some time to get it down. You should also keep them in places where they can be located easily. It is not advisable to keep them inside cupboards or closets. As a safeguard make sure that you educate your staff as to where the extinguishers are and what they need to do in case of fire.

Fire extinguishers require regular and proper upkeep. Usually they are serviced annually by the manufacturer or by the Fire Department. Servicing involves cleaning the equipment, inspecting for corrosion and recharging of the gas which may have gone stale. The technicians will also inspect the discharge nozzle and handles to make sure they are functioning properly.

Extinguishers are useful equipment. They can help to protect your home, property and lives against fire. A small investment in their purchase can save you from huge losses and a great deal of inconvenience.

Parental Anxieties Of The Internet

June 30th, 2009
by Sam Roberts

The parental anxiety of the internet, its vast applications and information, are in equal measures a bane and a boon. From the positive angle and especially in today’s context, parents would want their child to be able to manage a computer. While most children may have no interest in the various computer languages or be overly concerned with the vast applications, they would certainly know how to create their email id and access the internet.

This too is good as it gives the child the power of connectivity and a link that can provide a huge data of information to help them with their assignments. In fact, the internet has ’shrunk’ the world to a level that they can even learn about other countries and cultures seated at their desk, something that the earlier generation used to glean from the National Geographic magazine, not even the television. Unfortunately, this free information and net connectivity is not minus the misuse, which are the main cause of parental anxiety of the internet.

Any parent knows that full access of the internet will open the windows platform, but also opens doors of concern. For instance, the pornographic sites leave a lasting impression on the impressionable minds, and this cannot be erased overnight. The urge then is to know more, and a contrary cycle is set into motion. But for this, it just would not be fair to deprive the child of the internet entirely, and parents would be wiser in trying to counseling rather than in exercising a ban. Tell them about the rules they violate unknowingly, and tell them the truth about why they should avoid.

While we understand that parents would like to protect the purity of thought and the innocence of childhood, this is the best recourse left to the parents to defer their anxiety level. This is necessary too as some unscrupulous sites actually lure children towards porno-sites in the guise of URLs titled with the information that they would normally seek. The larger anxiety of parents is of their children falling pray to cyber stalkers, paedophiles, sex maniacs, who can entice and lure children on chat lines.

For restraining part of the parental anxiety of internet, it is well said that arming the children is equivalent to teaching them. Therefore, instead of relying on a gadget that only blocks certain sites, open their mind with a vast array of your talks, aligning and spelling out all your fears for them. Place it on the children as a ’shared parent child responsibility’ instead of relying on cyber laws that are applicable only after the damage is done.

Parents should understand that even counter-technology is just a tool, and not some magic wand. However, their anxiety today of the internet can be at ease knowing that the tech-savvy children no longer consider it a new world, but just an alternate environment that ties them to the real world. So real in fact, that the parents should also be prepared to accept that their children have already read this article.

Be Safe and Protected With a Home Security Camera

June 30th, 2009
by George Blade

More and more, homeowners nowadays are opting to put in a home security camera in their houses to defend themselves and their possessions. There are various choices when it concerns such merchandise, and there is a broad range of costs too, according to what you end up selecting.

Many cameras are created to watch a particular section of the home and are able to be hooked up to your TV or workstation by way of a cable. Some units are wireless and will transmit by means of the internet, so you will be able to watch your house from the convenience of your PC at your job. A further alternative is a dome camera that is able to keep an eye on a much larger zone than a normal camera due to its shape. However these are more usually utilized for places of business rather than as a component of a home security system.

A number of people set up concealed cameras, also known as nanny cameras. These devices are purposely camouflaged within the home so that you will be able to keep an eye on from a distance the behavior of individuals in your house without them knowing about it. They are known as nanny cams because they are regularly used to monitor the babysitter or nanny who is caring for the children while the parents are at work or otherwise away from the home. They can be enormously useful if you have an idea that that there is neglect or abuse going on.

Various other types of security cameras are wireless and are connected to your security system by means of routers so that the video can be watched on a screen via the internet. These cameras are often a component of a total home security arrangement that is overseen by a company for a monthly fee. If the unit indicates a problem, the company will notify the fire department or police on your behalf.

Several cameras broadcast in black and white and others can be watched in color, according to your inclinations. The monitors that they are connected to can be set up so that more than just one view is displayed at any given time. Or you can change to a new channel for every camera view. You can even get notification by text message or email if movement is detected on your yard, as is the situation with a motion detection camera.

Many folks, however, don’t have piles of money to pay out on the best home security units. There’s an alternative for them too - it’s called a dummy unit. You can buy convincing cameras that don’t actually work and position them here and there in the home. They cost in the region of fourteen bucks each. These products are able to move and light up at appropriate times, so a trespasser will think that he is being observed. There are even wires that make the cameras give the impression of being even more believable. They’re considered to be a very good disincentive to people who are thinking of burglarizing your home.
